Honoring the Muses

After a 12-year inhale, I’m starting to let some air out.

I’ve always been a hybrid creative – ambidextrous in a way. I like to paint dreamy colorscapes and forget all about time. I also like to craft brands and messaging that foster connection, a type of work that hangs its hat on the second hand of the clock.

I’ve been freelancing, mothering and moving for the last twelve years and those activities left little to no time for creative expression without purpose – namely, painting.

I think my muses were feeling so utterly abandoned that they conspired to remove all other options from my life until I could get back in touch with my foundational method of self development – creative self expression.

So I’ve been listening. For the first time in a long time, following my intuition, one stroke at a time and making the body of work that has been desperate to get out of my head since I stopped the flow very abruptly upon graduating from college.

Of course, I made a website about it: fluffandjetsam.com – my new art shop.

Diving back into painting has been a ride on a steep learning curve of a coaster. Creating physical assets by hand, after creating digital ones for so long has renewed my appreciation for detail and precision that cannot be faked or photoshopped later. It’s all just there, every stroke apparent. And what a delight – to handle the finished product. My mind is vivid again with color and ideas. I’m finally completing the circuit.
